The Cross Bronx Expressway received a dubious honor by clinching the top spot on a list of the 100 worst bottlenecked roads in the United States, which was released on Tuesday.
The list was part of a report commissioned by Inrix, a company that analyzes traffic congestion.
?It?s always crowded,? says one driver on the Cross Bronx. ?A lot of trucks are going through the bridge.?
The Cross Bronx not only topped the list - it landed in four of the first five slots. Every exit from White Plans Road to the Major Deegan made the list.
Drivers who travel on the expressway and frequently find themselves stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic are not surprised. And with the soaring gas prices, they say the bottleneck hurts their pocket more then ever.
The state Department of Transportation says it has a project under way to change lights and signals. It will also conduct a study that will look at ways to increase mobility on congested roads.
The state DOT will hold its ?Manage Use Lanes? study on Wednesday night at Hostos Community College at 6:30 p.m. The study, which will be open to the public, will look at ways to increase mobility on congested roads.
