Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced big news for adrenaline seekers Wednesday.
Amusement parks in the state can open for the spring. Although there will be lots of restrictions, parks like Coney Island will be able to open on April 9.
They will be able to operate at 33% capacity.
One of the co-owners of Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park, Deno Vourderis, tells News 12 that next week they are preparing to start on the hard work to make sure they are able to open just over seven weeks from Wednesday.
Vourderis says getting all the rides back up and running, putting social distancing markers down and figuring out how to protect staff and guests can be tough.
The executive director of the Alliance for Coney Island, Alexandra Silversmith, says this is good news for both the amusement district, but also restaurants, shops and other businesses.
Adventurers should note that places may require information for contact tracing and tickets will most likely need to be booked in advance.
Masks will be required.
