The city’s Department of Transportation celebrated the transformation of Brooklyn’s Berry Street into Bike Boulevard on Tuesday.
This comes as the department is continuing its comprehensive rollout of the Open Streets program. The new boulevard will prioritize pedestrian and cyclist safety, focusing on connection Domino and McCarren Parks to the Williamsburg Bridge.
"The drop on crashes since the open streets began is 80%. This is truly a program that is good for everyone,” said state Assembly member Emily Gallagher. “It is protecting motorists, it is protecting pedestrians, and it is protecting cyclists, and it's protecting animals."
