A Port Jervis man is facing a felony charge after police say he crashed his vehicle into an apartment building while trying to get away from an officer.

Port Jervis police say Anthony Cole, 23, was fleeing from Officer Morgan around 4:47 a.m. on Oct. 28 when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the building on Ryan Street.

Police say Cole was not injured in the crash and fled the scene after getting out of his vehicle.

Cole later returned to his home, where officers located him and took him into custody, according to authorities.

He was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, a felony, as well as fourth-degree criminal mischief, third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and reckless driving.

Police say Cole was arraigned before a judge and released on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to return to Port Jervis City Court at a later date.
