The Narrows Senior Center in Dyker Heights will close, upsetting some residents who say it's like a second home.
The Sisters of Mercy nuns who own the building plan to close it by early March and sell the space to a developer, neighbors say.
"What we're told that's happening is that the developer is just going to come in and build luxury condos," says Councilman Justin Brannan.
"The nuns did everything secretly, under the table, I would say," Pauline Castagna, a volunteer. "They just threw the seniors out."
Currently, the building houses a senior center where people gather every day for meals. Guests say they have a familial sense of community, and they're going to miss spending time together.
The Catholic Charities organization says it might relocate all of the senior center members to another location at 930 53rd St., which is a little over a mile away.
