E-bike and e-scooter riders will have to hit the brakes starting Friday.
The city says starting Friday, e-bike and e-scooter riders will have a 15-mph speed limit on New York City streets. Officials say this is a compromise between allowing riders to get around and keeping pedestrians and other riders safe.
It comes just weeks after a woman was hit and killed by an e-bike in Clinton Hill.
News 12 spoke with some people who think the limits will improve safety. But riders like Shazad Ismaily are hesitant about the new limits.
“I tend to enjoy riding in the range of 17-20 mph all the time. I want to get there as efficiently and quickly as possible. I'm going to be honest with you - here's what I think - how are you going to enforce such a thing?" said Ismaily.
News 12 reached out to the New York City Department of Transportation regarding how the limits will be enforced but hasn't yet heard back.
