An abduction that prompted a large police response in East New York Monday has been deemed a hoax by authorities.
Police say they learned about the supposed abduction, which was reported to have taken place near Linden Boulevard and Van Siclen Avenue, sometime during the morning. As officers canvassed the area looking for a gray Honda, police say three women walked into a local precinct and admitted it was a hoax.
"While [police were] here ... somebody could have been in trouble and they're wasting time on a practical joke," East New York resident Gladys Ponce de Leon said about the prank.
Although details of the incident are still being worked out, they say the women had another person in the trunk of their car and a child in the back seat. One person was issued a disorderly conduct summons. There's no word on whether the women will face charges.
