Family members say 48-year-old Shem Walker was shot and killed by a police officer outside his Lafayette Avenue apartment building Saturday night.
Walker, who was a veteran and father of two daughters, was allegedly outside his home smoking at about 8 p.m. when he was shot in the chest and head. He was taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where he died.
Police say Walker tried to grab one officer's firearm during a scuffle when the gun went off and shot him. According to published reports, the NYPD officers were in the area on an undercover drug investigation.
