An investigation is underway to figure out what caused a massive fire inside an East New York home Tuesday morning.
Ana Fischer says she was woken up by the landlord of her building on Belmont Avenue around 3:15 a.m.
"He started screaming, ‘get out, get out, get out,’” says Fischer.
Their home on the corner of Belmont Avenue and Chestnut Street suffered extensive damage.
"That front room, that's my bedroom and the fire was like right underneath the bedroom, but we weren't feeling anything,” says Fischer.
She says she grabbed her belongings and she and her family started making their way out the home from the second floor.
"As we went down the steps we saw the smoke coming up. I was the first one touching the door to see if there was any heat on the door, and once I opened the door it was the smoke that hit you,” she says.
At the same time, Fischer says another family member climbed out the back window to escape.
"He saw the smoke coming up and he chose to go out the back window where he ended up cutting himself. He's sitting in the ambulance",” says Fischer.
In addition to him, News 12 is told two other people were hurt, including a firefighter. However, officials say all of their injuries are considered minor.
The Red Cross tells News 12 they are working with three families, helping them with temporary housing and finances.
