Hundreds gathered for a plaque dedication ceremony and a street renaming Wednesday in honor of late FDNY EMS Capt. Alison Russo.
The Huntington woman was stabbed to death on the job in 2022. Russo was a 25-year veteran of the FDNY and volunteered for three decades with the Huntington Community First Aid Squad.
“One year ago, we lost Capt. Russo to a heinous act, but that act does not define Alison, and it does not define her memory,” said FDNY Commissioner Laura Kavanagh.
The ceremony was held at Station 49 in Queens with 42nd Street, between 20th and 19th avenues, being renamed Alison Russo Way.
