A vacant construction site in Gravesend has left neighbors concerned about the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses, like West Nile virus.
A pool of stagnant water has been at the site since July. Neighbors say the area has now become a dumping ground for trash and they?re worried about spending time outside or letting their children out to play. Residents have contacted the Buildings Department and other city agencies, but the problem has not been fixed.
The developer blames bureaucracy for stopping him from finishing the job. He says he?s waiting on a permit from the Department of Environmental Protection to pump out the water. News 12 Brooklyn found that the developer has several violations for the property.
