A federal inmate has been sentenced to life in prison for killing another prisoner at the Otisville facility.

Daniel Smith, 65, was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in White Plains, according to court documents. Smith was convicted in August of first-degree murder for beating an inmate in the head with a lock tied to a belt.

The killing happened four years ago. Smith was already serving time for an assault seven years ago.
