Crews are in the process of demolishing two buildings severely damaged by a fire in Bound Brook Friday morning.
Officials say the fire began around 10:30 a.m. in between two buildings on Vosseller Avenue. One of those buildings was a multifamily apartment, while the other had a business on the first floor and apartments on top.
"Due to the extensive damage to the buildings Vosseller Avenue will be closed through the weekend from Talmage Avenue to West Second Street while the structures are demolished," officials wrote in a statement.
All of the residents were able to get out of the building safely, officials said. The American Red Cross says it is helping 22 people from eight families who were displaced.
“The fire got really bad, and I could see it from the top of the building,” says witness Nicole Avedon.
Fire officials say no residents were hurt. News 12 crews saw one firefighter on a stretcher being loaded into an ambulance. Officials say he is being treated for minor injuries.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
