It was a close call for one of the city?s bravest as he battled flames in Coney Island Monday.
Tom Patrizzo, of Ladder 147, says he was checking bedrooms in a second-floor apartment at 608 Coney Island Ave. when the fire quickly spread to his location.
?It lit up on us and I got stuck?there was fire coming out the door and I had to bail out at the last second,? Patrizzo says.
Six firefighters were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.
Meanwhile, the fire destroyed the apartments in the building. The tenants are working with the Red Cross to figure out their next step.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
