Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano has announced that Joseph DiBenardo's name will be added to the FDNY's Wall of Honor and has also approved a "line of duty" plaque for the lieutenant's firehouse, Rescue 3.This news is following his death in November of an accidental overdose from pain medication. Following his passing, his family petitioned Cassano to review his death as having been related to his line-of-duty injuries. On "Black Sunday" in 2005, he was one of five firefighters forced to jump from a burning building after getting trapped. DiBenardo was badly injured after jumping 50 feet from the burning apartment, which was illegally subdivided and had blocked exits. The two firefighters who died are already on the Wall of Honor.
