Firefighters battled a vacant warehouse blaze in Greenpoint Tuesday morning.
The fire started in a three-story building on West Street between Quay and Noble streets. Residents say the flames and smoke were seen for miles. Fire officials say the fire quickly went to four alarms within 40 minutes and was later upgraded to seven alarms. It also spread to a neighboring building, which was also unoccupied.
There was a partial building collapse, which split a nearby utility pole. There were more than 200 firefighters on the scene. The fire was also fought from the East River by fireboats. At least eight firefighters were injured in the blaze.
