A tractor-trailer filled with thousands of gallons of fuel overturned on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway Friday morning, causing massive traffic delays.
Hazmat crews arrived on the scene after the accident, cleaning up fuel that spilled onto 30th Avenue and the eastbound side of the BQE. The workers also managed to transfer the remaining fuel from the flipped truck into another tanker.
Traffic has been rerouted to Astoria Boulevard, causing major delays.
Friday?s crash marks the second tractor-trailer accident on the BQE in a week. Some commuters say it is perhaps time the city applies stricter regulations when it comes to trucks.
?They should probably allow them on the road at certain times, maybe at night when the traffic is not so bad,? says motorist Nedine Fonseca.
