Family and friends said a final goodbye on Saturday to an 11-year-old boy who is believed to have died after having an allergic reaction from smelling fish.
Cameron Jean-Pierre lived in New Jersey but was visiting his grandmother in Canarsie at the time of the incident.
Jean-Pierre’s mother says her son had asthma and was allergic to fish.
Jean-Pierre’s grandmother and aunt were cooking a traditional Caribbean fish dish on New Year's Day when the boy became ill after inhaling the smell. The family says they tried using his nebulizer but it was too late.
Jean-Pierre’s family tells News 12 he had a great sense of humor and always knew how to put a smile on someone's face. Jean-Pierre’s official cause of death has not yet been determined.
