A Republican candidate vying for a Brooklyn City Council seat will appear in court Sept. 8 to face several charges linked to an alleged sex scandal.
According to documents from the Nassau County District Attorney's Office on Long Island, George Smith was charged with forcible touching, sexual misconduct, harassment and sexual abuse after an alleged incident on Dec. 28.
Smith and his lawyer say his estranged wife is responsible for the accusations. Smith and his wife are reportedly involved in a custody battle over their 4-year-old daughter.
Smith served time in prison in the 1990s for robbery.
