Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed six bills Tuesday at the seventh annual 9/11 Motorcycle Ride and Ceremony in Manhattan.
The legislation delivers pension and health benefits to 9/11 first responders, volunteers and workers.
One law helps make the sick-leave process easier, and another expands disability benefits to include certain public workers who helped with rescue, recovery or cleanup operations.
"And we're not going to leave them alone. Because they are also American heroes, and we honor them and we honor their families and we will take care of their families, the way they took care of ours,” said Cuomo.
Four of those bills were sponsored by Sen. Andrew Gounardes. Gounardes sponsored the Unlimited Sick Bill, the Five-Year Lookback Bill, the NYCers Bill and the Accidental Death Benefit Bill.
He says all of those will make it easier for first responders and their families to access the services they are owed.
