Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed new city speed limit legislation today in Manhattan.
The legislation drops the New York City speed limit from 30 miles per hour to 25 miles per hour.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has been behind the push to slow down vehicles as it is a key component in his Vision Zero plan, which is intended to reduce the number of traffic-related deaths.
In addition to lowering the citywide speed limit, Vision Zero will implement more speed cameras, tougher ticketing and reduced speed zones.
The speed law is expected to take effect in three months.
