Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced that a raise in state funding will contribute to increasing law enforcement on trains in New York City.
The news comes amid a spike in subway crime. Authorities say two deadly shootings occurred at Bronx subway stations in February.
Hochul says the NYPD already added 1,000 more officers throughout the transit system from January to February. However, she believes more can be done to improve safety.
More details on the plan will be announced Wednesday, according to Hochul. She says she is teaming up with Mayor Eric Adams and the NYPD's Chief of Transit to find out how she can help.
