Gov. Hochul signs bill providing $51 million to organizations at risk of hate crimes

Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a bill Tuesday to improve safety at organizations at risk of hate crimes in New York.
The Anti-Defamation League says in 2022, the state saw an almost 40% increase in these crimes, making it the leading state in the nation.
Gov. Hochul spoke at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Manhattan announcing $51 million will be allocated to 1,000 nonprofit organizations at-risk of hate crimes to strengthen security and protect them from targeted attacks.
The money will go toward bringing on more staff and advancing technology and security systems. This funding is available as of Tuesday. The money comes on the heels of an announcement made by the governor in May that $25 million in funds would go to the same effort.
In addition to the $51 million, Hochul signed a bill to strengthen hate crime reporting and investigations on college campuses.
