Rep. Michael Grimm claimed victory in the 11th Congressional District, despite bad publicity amid his run-in with the law.
Grimm defeated Democratic challenger Domenic Recchia by 13 points on election night.
Back in April, Grimm took the spotlight when federal prosecutors handed down a 20-count indictment. He has since pleaded not guilty to tax evasion, fraud, conspiracy and other charges, and is expected to go on trial in February.
Grimm has reportedly said that he will step down if his trial prevents him from serving, which would trigger a special election for his congressional seat.
The 11th District represents parts of southern Brooklyn and Staten Island.
