A new maestro will be taking over the David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center, as the New York Philharmonic announced its newest music and artistic director.

Gustavo Dudamel made his debut with the philharmonic back in 2007, when he conducted works by Dvorak and Prokofiev. Since then, he's led the orchestra in 26 concerts with a wide variety of music genres performed.

Currently, Dudamel is the artistic director at the Los Angeles Philharmonic as well as the Paris National Opera. The 42-year-old is known worldwide for his enthusiasm, and the musicians at the New York Philharmonic requested he be their next leader.

After repeated efforts from President and CEO Deborah Borda, Dudamel will be joining the philharmonic, but New Yorkers wont see him on stage until the 2026-2027 season.

Dudamel will be the first Latino to hold the position at the philharmonic, and will hold a five-year tenure.
