A group of Highbridge tenants currently on a rent strike say they aren’t giving up in their fight to get safer living conditions and have filed a lawsuit against their landlord. 

Tenants at 1230 Woodycrest Ave. claim that the landlord has not fixed overdue repairs in their apartments, such as collapsing walls and cracking windows.  

Bronx Legal Services’ Tenants Right Coalition and CASA-New Settlement represent more than a dozen tenants in the ongoing lawsuit. They told News 12 that a housing court judge mandated repairs to the building back in October 2022, but those fixes have yet to be completed.  

The Department of Buildings’ website currently lists a Class One violation on the property for failure to certify corrections, totaling $270,000 in civil penalties.  

Tenants are set to meet Wednesday with housing attorneys to discuss the next steps in their long-fought battle for better living conditions. Both tenants and lawyers for the landlord are scheduled to be in housing court on June 23. 

News 12 reached out to the landlord of the building for a statement and is awaiting a response.
