Mexican restaurants in the Bronx welcomed customers Thursday to celebrate National Burrito Day.
Burritos are traditionally made from rice, beans, veggies, sauces and sometimes meat, all wrapped up in a large tortilla. The origins of this dish are up for debate, but many historians say it originated back in Mexico City in 1895.
The burrito made waves in Los Angeles in the 1930s. In that same time period, the first recipe appeared in an American cookbook.
Chain restaurants like Taco Bell and Chipotle offered deals for today. News 12's Noelle Lilley joined restaurateurs from a few local mom and pop Mexican restaurants to talk about their business and the homemade flavors they say keep bringing customers back.
