On Wednesday, many parents, students and teachers in the Hudson Valley were on high alert after the devastating school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

School districts are working to assure worried parents of their plans to protect and support students.

The White Plains school district has psychologists, social workers and guidance counselors available to talk to students and staff members.

Schools in Pleasantville and Mamaroneck have also made on-site counselors available to talk to the students. 

Yonkers is bringing back background checks as a result of this latest tragedy.

​"What can we do to ensure that there are strategies in place for identifying red flags, that we have support personnel available for students, that we make sure we have additional training so that parents, staff and community members are aware to recognize the warning signs,” said Samantha Rosado-Ciriello, the president of the Yonkers Federation of Teachers.

Residents may notice an increased police presence both in the schools and around their communities in the wake of this tragedy
