U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested an Ecuadorian man on Himrod Street in Bushwick during a targeted immigration enforcement operation on Thursday, according to a statement from a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security.
DHS identified the man as Danny Joel Quispe Maizanche.
The agency said he entered the United States near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, in April 2024 and was later enrolled in the federal Alternatives to Detention program.
DHS said Quispe Maizanche failed to comply with the program's reporting requirements.
According to DHS, Quispe Maizanche has accepted what the agency described as "Incentivized Voluntary Departure" and is expected to return to Ecuador.
The agency also encouraged people living in the United States without legal authorization to use the CBP Home app to arrange voluntary departures.
DHS said the federal government is offering financial assistance and transportation for eligible individuals who choose to leave the country voluntarily.
The arrest comes as federal immigration authorities continue to conduct enforcement operations across New York City.
