Police have released the identity of the teen killed during a fight at a Canarsie shopping center.
Authorities say 18-year-old Samaya Mackey died around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Seaview Plaza.
Police say it all started when Mackey and another person got into a fight at Uncles and Cousins Deli.
Witnesses say the fight carried out into the parking lot before the two girls ran inside neighboring Mikey's Restaurant and Lounge.
Employees at the restaurant say the two girls ran into the basement. They say Mackey was carrying a glass bottle, which she then dropped, causing it to shatter. They say Mackey then fell on top of the shards of glass, wounding herself.
"Everybody, like I said, tried to resuscitate her...it was crazy. I was standing right there at the corner store just watching the whole commotion. I know her mom, I know her aunt...they're heartbroken right now," said Gabrelle D., the victim's friend.
Police say first responders arrived on scene and found the teen with a stab wound to the torso. She was rushed to the hospital but did not survive.
Dozens of candles are now placed outside the restaurant in the teen's memory. A similar memorial can be seen inside the Seaview Houses, where she lived just around the corner.
Her friends tell News 12 she was known for her funny and bubbly personality. They say she always looked out for the younger children in the neighborhood.
Police say a person was taken into custody following the fight, though it's not clear if they will face any charges.
