The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a ground stop for flights bound for John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) Sunday morning due to thunderstorms in the New York region.

Departures destined for JFK were grounded from 8:18 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. because of thunderstorm activity.

In addition to the ground stop, the FAA reported that departing flights from JFK were experiencing average delays of 75 minutes as of 8:43 a.m., with delays decreasing.

The delays were attributed to weather-related traffic management initiatives.
