It was business at usual on Tuesday at Dunns River Lounge in Rockville Centre, but beneath the smiles was constant worry about Hurricane Melissa, the monster storm that battered the island of Jamaica.
The majority of the staff at Dunns River Lounge in Rockville Centre, a Jamaican restaurant, have family and loved ones in Jamaica.
The restaurant’s owner, Naala Royale, kept checking in on her 83-year-old mother in Jamaica, who was hunkering down with a friend.
Nicola Lindo, a Dunns River Lounge employee, said she has a lot of family in Jamaica, including her father.
She said she hadn’t spoken to him since Monday.
Lindo said they just have to “ride it out” and pray.
