Police are investigating claims Wednesday that they may have the wrong person in custody in connection with the Greenpoint warehouse fire.
A contractor from Sullivan County says 59-year-old Leszek Kuczera was working for him at the time of the blaze. Kuczera was arrested last week and confessed to setting the fire that destroyed the historic waterfront complex. The contractor claims Kuczera was feeding horses and cleaning a campground in upstate New York and returned to Greenpoint on May 11.
Kuczera is currently being held on Rikers Island. The blaze is considered the city?s biggest in a decade, excluding the World Trade Center disaster.
