Dozens of Brooklyn residents marched through the streets of East New York Saturday to spread a message of nonviolence throughout the community.
Local clergy members joined forces with the NYPD, a collaboration that event organizers say is the first of its kind in the area. Their goal is to make sure neighbors are comfortable coming to them for advice and help if they ever feel afraid.
They also hope to instill more trust for the police in residents.
The group says it wants to hold another event like this one in the near future. It says if it can change one life for the better, that will be a step in the right direction.
