Turtle Crossing: Drivers urged to slow down as egg-laying season begins: Drivers are being urged to slow down as the first mother snapping turtle of the season crossed the Western Highway in Blauvelt Friday. The reptiles annually migrate in the area to lay their eggs. However, it is a dangerous trek across the road. Volunteers from the organization, The Turtles of the Western Highway, work nearby the turtles' path to help them turn back to the wetlands. The group is asking residents to drive slowly and give the turtles time to cross the road safely.
Police: Pedestrian struck, killed in West Hempstead:  Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed in West Hempstead. The incident happened as the man was trying to cross Hempstead Turnpike near Westminster Road. According to police, the man was hit by an SUV around 8:20 p.m. Sunday.
Captain's Cove Marina in Bridgeport prepares for summer season:  As Memorial Day gets closer, a Bridgeport boat yard is preparing for the summer season and how to keep people safe.Captain's Cove Marina has posted precautions around it, including encouraging boating as a family unit. Employees at the marina say boaters will be able to fish, go tubing, swim and even scuba dive.
Need to move your car? Alternate side parking rules back in effect this week  Haven’t moved your car in a while? Starting Monday, New Yorkers will have to abide by alternate side parking rules, at least for the next couple of days. It is the first time that drivers will need to move their cars since the city suspended alternate side parking on March 18.
Senior citizens stay active with balcony aerobics classesAn aerobics class in Bergen County is keeping senior citizens active from the safety of their balconies. The class takes place outside an apartment building on Midland Avenue in Garfield.
