Thousands of spectators turned out for the 25th Annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade Saturday.
Residents of all ages and from all parts of the borough turned out for the festivities. Spectators watched as participants dressed as mermaids and other creatures danced down the street.
One spectator said he came all the way from Miami to see the parade, which pays homage to Mardi Gras.
A resident said that for him, the parade marks the beginning of the summer. Mark Schultz said he attended because he thought it might be the last one because of all of the changes coming to Coney Island.
This year?s parade king and queen were Adam Savage of ?Mythbusters? and Patti D?Arbanville of ?Rescue Me.?
