Multiple parents are accusing teachers and staff at P.S. 202 in East New York of physically and verbally assaulting their children.
One mother says her son told her a teacher choked him. Another parent, who sits on the school’s PTA board, says her son’s finger was injured so severely by a teacher that he needed a splint. A third says a staff member became aggressive toward her in front of her child.
Families say they’ve reported the incidents to the school but feel nothing has been done. Two have already withdrawn their children from P.S. 202.
Council Member Chris Banks is now calling for a full and transparent investigation into the allegations.
In a statement, the Department of Education told News 12, “At New York City Public Schools, the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority. We are actively investigating the incidents in question and will take appropriate actions based on the findings. We take these matters incredibly seriously and will always ensure that our schools remain safe, supportive environments for all students."
The families are now suing the school and the DOE.
