Residents in Mott Haven rallied Saturday in opposition to a new bike lane, which they say is making parking impossible to find.
Jennifer Delgado, 38, organized the demonstration in opposition to the bike lane along Jackson Avenue which Community Board 1 says will eliminate 150 parking spots.
"From the months of October to April, it's like, who's really going to be using this bike lane?" Delgado asks.
Demonstrators said the lack of parking impacts many in the neighborhood, from those with disabilities, to local churches, to youth football coaches.
Some drivers said the eliminated parking spots is forcing them to park their cars in dangerous areas.
Documents from the Department of Transportation say that the goal of the bike lane is to protect pedestrians and cyclists.
News 12 reached out to the Department of Transportation but did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
News 12 also reached out to City Councilwoman Diana Ayala about the bike lane. She said in a statement, in part, "This initiative by the Administration was rushed and will further exacerbate congestion throughout the community. It was irresponsible for the Department of Transportation to have moved forward with the proposal."
