The Mount Vernon Police Department unveiled the first order of its new hybrid, fully equipped police vehicles.
The vehicles are state-of-the-art Ford SUVs that were purchased last year in October for the patrol and detective divisions.
A total of 20 vehicles were purchased. A few of them have been already operating for at least a day.
"These vehicles have been purchased with our community in mind and our officers in mind,” said Mount Vernon Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard.
The hybrid vehicles were bought using American Rescue Plan money, with no cost to taxpayers. More will be added to the fleet in the upcoming months.
