The MTA is rolling out a roadmap that will focus on improving and protecting the transit system from stormy weather.
The $6 billion plan would focus on preparing parts of the transit system to withstand serious stormy conditions, focusing on drainage in underground subways to prevent stormwater from leaking in, elevating subway yards and bus depots to protect equipment and heat impacts on bridges.
"You hear about Ida, you hear about sandy, you have rain storms that don't even have a name and they come in the summer that shut the entire system down,” said Catherine Rinaldi, president of the MTA Metro-North Railroad.
