An early
morning fire broke out at Elite Cleaners & Tailors along Branch Avenue
in Little Silver.
Just after 6 a.m., an employee was arriving to work when they opened the
door and smoke billowed out. They then called 911.
At least four fire companies from surrounding towns responded to
the fire, including Red Bank and Shrewsbury.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but News
12 is told it started in the back of the building, possibly in the
clothes hampers.
Brian Carson, one
of the owners of the shop, describes getting the call this morning.
“Unfortunately, we woke up to our alarms going
off that there was movement in the store,” says Carson. “I
thought I was waking up to a bad dream. We want to thank God that nobody got
hurt.”
None of the clothes caught fire, but there was
smoke damage and damage to some equipment. The Monmouth County Hazmat Unit was
called to the scene out of precaution.
