The National Weather Service confirmed Monday that an EF0 tornado touched down on Fishers Island, off the coast of the North Fork.
The agency said the tornado struck at 7:35 a.m., knocking down trees and wires and shifting small buildings off of their foundations. Its preliminary findings show the tornado had an approximate 2-mile path length, with winds of 65 to 85 mph.
The National Weather Service says a team will conduct an on-site survey tomorrow.
