Investigators say new DNA evidence in the cold-case killing of a 17-year-old Brooklyn girl more than a decade ago helped track down her alleged killer.
Shariba Thomas was found dead in a Bushwick alley on Feb. 11, 2004.
But over the summer, investigators requested a DNA analysis on her fingernails, which implicated Kwahuru Govan. Govan, whose DNA entered the federal database following a 2014 arrest in Florida, was arraigned Thursday in Brooklyn Supreme Court on charges of second-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping.
In the courtroom, Govan denied involvement in the crime.
