A new and improved food pyramid will provide Bronx Latinos with a path to a healthier life.
The non-profit group Latino Nutrition Coalition and health experts say the new pyramid will help ease certain illnesses targeting Latinos. The group say they want Latinos to eat healthier based on their tradition diets. They say the new diet includes more poultry and seafood.
Registered dietitian Milton Stokes recommends stocking up on fruits and vegetables. "Because diabetes rates are so increased and obesity rates have increased as much as they have, this pyramid really focuses on plant-based foods,? said Stokes.
The Latino Nutrition Coalition plans to distribute the pyramid and health guide in supermarkets, churches and health centers in the borough.
