Bronx residents will soon be able to enjoy the park near the Bronx Zoo in a new way thanks to a greenway project that will get under way this spring.
The Bronx River Greenway will link East 180th Street to Birchall Avenue near the Bronx Park East subway station and run along the Bronx Zoo.
The project will provide a new and safe route for bike paths and pedestrians, featuring new lighting and landscaping.
The greenway will cost $3.19 million and will be funded by the Department of Environmental Protection and the Municipal Water Finance Authority.
The Parks Department hopes that the new project will help better connect The Bronx and allow people to get from Ferry Point Park to the Bronx Zoo with greater ease.
The greenway is expected to be completed by the summer of 2013.
