No charges filed in death of pedestrian who was fatally struck on Linden Blvd.

Police have not filed charges against the driver who struck and killed a 36-year-old man on Monday afternoon in East New York.
The NYPD has identified the victim as 36-year-old Mark Schumaker.
City records show that injuries have taken place where this accident occurred at the intersection of Linden Boulevard and Ashford Street on a consistent basis in the past, with 22 injuries taking place there in 2023.
According to the city’s Department of Transportation, the vehicle in question, driven by a 59-year-old man who stayed at the scene, was proceeding through a green light and the pedestrian crossed against the signal.
The DOT says that since 2020 they have “been actively involved in implementing various intersection safety enhancements at Linden Boulevard and Ashford Street. These improvements include reducing crossing distances, calming turning traffic, establishing safer crossings, and enhancing accessibility” including four median tip extensions and ADA-compliant ramps.
They add that since 2019, there has been one fatality and six severe injuries at the intersection.
