The Archdiocese of New York has joined 42 other Catholic dioceses and organizations in a lawsuit against the Obama administration over freedom of religion.
The suit challenges a federal mandate requiring employers to offer health insurance coverage for birth control and other contraceptives. The groups claim the policy violates the First Amendment rights of religiously affiliated hospitals, schools and charities.
President Barack Obama first announced the controversial policy in January.
