The New York City-based company Crumbs Bake Shop officially closed its doors yesterday.
The popular cupcake store, which opened 11 years ago, says it will be filing bankruptcy. When it first opened, business was booming and Crumbs grew rapidly to a reported 65 locations in 12 states. Most recently, the company had been suffering from a decline in sales.
At the end of last year, Crumbs listed over 800 full-time and part-time employees.
News 12 was on location at Crumbs on Montague Street, where customers say they were saddened by the closing.
"I am very upset," said Doreen Johnson, of Canarsie. "I come here every day for their coffee. Every morning."
