? A New York City police officer is recovering after he was injured by friendly fire in the pursuit of a suspect in Fort Greene Friday.
Authorities say Officer Giancarlo Raspanti, along with two other plain-clothes officers, responded to a call of a teen brandishing a weapon near Myrtle Avenue. Authorities say 17-year-old Clayton Givens fled when cops told him to put down his weapon and later pointed the gun at the officers. Officials say one of the officers fired three shots, one of which hit Raspanti in the leg. He was taken to New York Methodist Hospital. Raspanti?s wife tells News 12 Brooklyn she is glad her husband is alive and thankful his injuries are minor.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says Givens was arrested a short time after the incident. The suspect has a prior arrest for assaulting a police officer.
