One of the many boats the NYPD uses to keep the city safe was dedicated Friday to a detective from the Bronx who died in the line of duty.

Detective Anthony Venditti was killed 30 years ago during a shootout with members of the Genovese crime family. The men accused of killing Venditti were acquitted but were later charged for other crimes.

Ann Venditti, Anthony's mother, says she was proud to see her son as part of the NYPD. She also says in his personal life, he loved to be on the water, which makes this honor even greater.

Venditti became a detective with the organized crime bureau in 1984. Growing up in the Bronx, he played the accordion and founded the borough's chapter of the Blue Knights.

Even though decades have passed since his death, Venditti's family and the NYPD say it is a well-deserved honor.
